Dr. Brook Vann is an Assistant Professor of Digital Interactive Media at Daytona State College, queer studies scholar, sound artist, and digital media scholar. They hold a PhD in Critical Media Practices from the University of Colorado Boulder and an MFA in Kinetic Imaging from Virginia Commonwealth University. Vann's research and creative practice develop the Queer Sonic Method, an approach that uses listening as a form of knowledge to examine how queer and trans lives are recorded, represented, and misrecognized within media and data systems. Spanning web-based memorials, data sonification, and community-engaged projects, their work has been presented internationally, including at SIGGRAPH Asia, and engages public audiences through participatory and experimental media practices rooted in queer sonic inquiry.
