Dr. Brook Vann is a queer studies scholar, sound artist, and digital media practitioner with a PhD in Critical Media Practices (University of Colorado Boulder) and an MFA in Kinetic Imaging from Virginia Commonwealth University. Vann's research and practice develop the Queer Sonic Method, an intersectional approach that uses listening as a form of knowledge to examine how queer and trans lives are recorded and misrecognized in media and data systems. Spanning web-based memorials, data sonification, and community-based projects, their work has been presented internationally, including at SIGGRAPH Asia, and engages public audiences through participatory, experimental media rooted in queer sonic practices.
